If The Crown Fits...

When I was a little girl I had a love of all things that sparkled.  My favorite thing was a metallic gold purse.  I carried it everywhere with me.  It went especially well with my short hair (due to the crazy curls, my mother decided for her sanity to keep it short) and overalls (I had a tendency to wiggle out of jeans, pants, or anything that didn't have straps to keep me in.) When I was older, I fell in love with costumes, particularly prom dresses.  While I only spent my allotted two years at the dance itself, I had at least ten dresses, some covered in beads, some in animal prints, all of them beautiful to me.  When I had a bad day I would put on one of my dresses and sulk in my room, dreaming of being a princess that was sheltered from the awful things that came with being a "commoner."

As I was thinking of some different themes for an upcoming event I came across Cakie's blog and saw these adorable crowns:

While sewing may not be a project that can be done post-storytelling, I think this could be easily adapted with construction paper, glue and felt pieces.  Check out all of the crowns she made here.
I'm still in search of other Royal Ideas to add to my Barefoot Book of Princesses event, any suggestions?  Checkout the book if you get at second at my marketplace:

Tis' the Season to be Giving...

Hello,

So I happened to look at my calendar today and realized that it's already the 10th month...meaning the 12th month will soon be upon us...meaning SNOW!!

Technically, I live in Iowa so the idea of snow in October isn't completely absurd...however, I'm hoping it will hold off at least until I can get a good taste of fall, I mean, it is my favorite season after all.

I'm constantly looking for ideas for activities to do with the children that I read to.  As winter looms in the upcoming months, I know that winter themed books will be a big hit and therefore will need a big idea to accompany them.  I stumbled upon Sugar City Journal and saw these wonderful ideas.  The one that particularly caught my eye was the surprise soap activity that have surprise toys inside!  These are quick and relatively clean looking.  Thank you Sugar City girls for this!  You can bet that I'll be trying this out this winter!

Ready, Set, READ!

Hello Fellow Adventurer's!

September of 2010 marked a very busy and exciting month for me!  As a Scentsy consultant I was looking for a way to network with fellow business women.  My friend Sarah introduced me to Coffee Connect: Cedar Rapids, a weekly meeting of like-minded business women looking for the same thing I was - connections.  I attended and immediately knew that not only was this the group for me, but working from home and directly with customers was exactly what I wanted to do with my life.

I love Scentsy and the family-based business philosophy, however I still wanted another avenue to persue in business, especially in regards to children.  Then I began talking to Sarah about becoming a Barefoot Ambassador.

I fell in love with the idea of living barefoot.  The Barefoot community believes in exploring nature and cultural diversities in something I can relate to - the written word.  With beautiful pictures and stories created by independent authors and artists, I knew Barefoot Books were a product that not only me, but my friends and family would fall in love with as well.

I am currently out to spread the word about the wonderful things that Barefoot has to offer.  I'm looking to the Wellman and Kalona area to do storytelling FREE OF CHARGE in preschools, daycares, and elementary schools. It is my passion in life to teach everyone about the world that exists inside the mind.  All it takes is a good book to open up a whole world of possibility!

So please, take a look at my marketplace http://amanda-wilson.barefootbooks.com/ and see the variety of subjects and age levels that Barefoot has to choose from!  Host a party, fundraiser, or become an Ambassador and help everyone know the advantages to living Barefoot!

In this blog you'll find photos of my recent adventures as well as upcoming events and offers so be sure to check back often.

Thanks so much for stopping by remember, a child learns to read on the laps of their parents!
